El Campello is a town that truly manages to combine the features of a holiday resort with the traditional aspects of Spanish life.
In the main it's quiet and relaxing, with its individuality maintained by considerate local planners, but still pretty vibrant with a fruitful fishing industry and friendly bars and restaurants.
Situated between Alicante (15km) and Benidorm (30km), El Campello benefits from an impressive 23kms of beaches and coves - the golden sands of Playa Muchavista are worth a visit - as well as a 1.5km promenade (Paseo Maritimo). Restaurants and bars line the promenade, offering the perfect chance to taste the local cuisine and walk it off afterwards.
For something a bit more strenuous, there are excursions into El Campello's uninhabited mountainous areas and the chance to view sights of ecological interest.
The town is also home to a number of attractions of historical interest such as the remains of circular cabins around the port area dating back to 3000BC and the Tower Vigia, a watchtower of the Illeta which dates from 1554, built to warn against raids from pirates.
Other sights include a parochial church devoted to Saint Teresa, daily fish auctions held at the port, a weekly fish market and pretty, brightly painted seafront homes.
And with the coastal railway that runs along the coast from Alicante to Denia and stops at five different points in the EL Campello region, it's easy to get around.
